Ⅰ．緒言

　農薬ブラストサイジンBlasticidinは東大農学部住木教授の指導により，東大農芸化学科抗生物質研究班，東大応用微生物研究所，農林省農技研農薬科等の共同研究によつて発見された抗植物病菌性の新抗生物質で，特に稲の「いもち病」に有効な物質であるが，水田への撒布使用に際して眼に飛入して眼障害を訴える者が少くないので，その障害の本態を知る目的で著者はこれを実験的に研究し，2〜3の知見を得たので次に報告する。

Experiments were conducted on rabbit eyes for the possible ocular lesion caused by Blas-ticidin, a new antibiotic agent developed in Japan against the rice blasts.

Blasticidin-S solution at concentrations of 1%, 0.1%, 0.05%, and 0.01%, and Blasticidin-M powder which is a mixture of Blasticidin-S and mercury compound were administered respectively into the conjunctival sac of the animals followed by clinical and histological observations.

Five to six hours after the administration, severe conjunctivitis was observed to deve-lop, accompanied by pseudomembrane forma-tionin some instances.
