Studies on the Ocular Toxicity of Blasticidin-S:Report II : The Experimental Therapy on Rabbit Eyes with Various Drugs

I．緒言

　農薬Blasticidin S （以下BcS）は，稲の"いもち病"の防除ならびに治療剤として著効を有するが，一方哺乳動物に対する毒性もかなり強烈であり，特に粘膜組織を特異的に浸襲する性質を有し，中でも結膜，角膜に対する刺激作用は最も敏感であるが，眼障害以外に，上気道，気管刺激症状，消化管粘膜刺激症状などをきたす事もある。

　BcSは，塩基性，水溶性の白色針状結晶で，その化学構造は，最近の研究によりほぼ決定され，次の如く公表されている。それによると，生物の蛋白合成に関係の深い核酸に似た構造をもつており，BcSが"いもち病"菌の蛋白合成を阻害して，これを殺滅することが明らかにされている。

Studies were conducted on various modes of therapeutics on experimentally induced ocular lesions through topical Blasticidin-S in rabbits. Glutathione showed the most benefi-cial effect to toxic symptoms when applied externally eyedrops as well as intravenously. Beneficial effects of a lesser degree were ob-served after external application of 1% sodium bicarbonate and 2% glycyrrhizine solution. Instillation of Pereston-N and systemically applied Tanderil were also effective, though to a slight degree, in alleviating the toxic symptoms.
