  • Look Inside

Substruction is a strategy to critique the linkage or consistency between the theory and methodology of re-search. Using Kurz, Sessler, & Lenhardt's research (1996) about the relationship between hypothermia and surgical wound infection among patients undergoing co-lorectal surgery, the following three issues were discussed in this paper: 1) Components of the theoretical and op-erational systems; 2) Evidence which supports the theo-retical system of the research (integration); and 3) Philosophical background of substruction. Also, strengths and limitations of substruction were mentioned.
