  • Look Inside

Ar closing volumes in seated and supine positions were determined in healthy adults, aged 23~70. Closing volume was revealed to be increased with age in both positions, whereas the difference between expiratory reserve volume and closing volume was decreased with age. The "critical age", at which the closing capacity exceeds the functional residual capacity, was shown to be 74 years in seated position, and 45 years in supine position.
