"Jumbling of objects（visual）"はW. E. Dandy（1941）がMénière氏病の外科的治療と題する論文中，術後の後遺症の問題にふれて「両側前庭神経切断は驚異的後障害をもたらすことがあり，それは"jumbling of objects（visual）"であつて患者が動作中おこり，静止すればただちに事物は再び完全に判然してくる状態である」と説明したのを嚆矢とする。このように両側前庭機能の完全喪失の状態になつたものにまま観察しうるものである1）2）4）5）。が，この状態は患者にとつては歩行乗車など日常生活のための体動に伴い明視しなければならないものが，jumbleし認知ならびに体の平衡が難かしくなり重大な支障を来たす。
ここに，複合ストレプトマイシン（複合SM）投与後に現われた"jumbling of objects"を訴える症例を報告し，若干の考察を加えた。
A housewife, aged 55, complained of "jumbling of objects" whenever she shook her head or walked. These symptoms made their first appearance 2 weeks after the intramuscular administration of combined streptomycin and dihydrostreptomycin for the treatment of an uncontrolable chronic ulcer that occurred on the escharotic scar of the left thigh. The patient also complained of tinnitus aurium and dull headache. The total dosage was 35 grams administered in the period of 17 days.
Otoncurological examination of the patient showed bilateral loss of vestibular function.
