VESTIBULAR SYMPTOMS FOLLOWING STREPTOMYCIN TREATMENT

　I．はじめに

　Streptomycin（SM）は1944年にWaksmanらによつてStreptomyces griseusから分離された抗生物質である。

　SMの副作用であるSM難聴については多くの研究業績があり，いまや医学常識となつているが，SMの投与法の工夫や早期発見の努力もあつて，最近ではSM難聴の発生は少なくなつている。しかし，一方では，重篤な平衡障害を合併する症例が増加しており，平衡障害の発生予防と早期発見が臨床耳科学の重要なテーマとなりつつある。

　そこで，SM中毒性前庭障害の様相を検討し，早期発見のポイントについて私見を述べたい。

　Two cases of vestibular symptoms with ocular manifestations of "jumbling of objects" whenever the head was shaken are reported.

　Otoneurological examination of these patients showed bilateral loss of vestibular functions in both cases. The patients, however, did not complain of tinnitus or deafness.

　These vestibular symptoms were manifested following intramuscular administration of streptomycin.
