　ビタミンB₁は感音系難聴に対する治療剤として最も古くから使用されているものの1つである。すなわち，すでに1939年Selfridge^1）は，CovellがVB複合体欠乏によつて起こつた雛の皮膚炎において第八脳神経にも著明かつ急速な変性の起こることを発見したことから推察して，難聴者にこコチン酸に併用してVB₁の治療を試みている。

　本邦では昭和26年切替教授^2）はVB₁を種々の方法で使用した結果，80例中約30％に自覚的改善を認めたことを報告し，続いて後藤教授等^3）はVB₁100mg静注が著効のあることを発表して以来，感音系難聴に対してはVB₁が広く使用されるようになつた。しかるに最近所謂活性ビタミン剤が登場するに及んで内服でもかなりの効果のあることが明らかとなり，急速に普及されるに至つた。

The effect of neuvita for improvement of hearing was studied in 32 cases 51 ears SM loss of hearing, 15 cases 27 ears of nerve dea-fness the caues of which were unknown and 3 cases 4 ears of deafness due to noise trau-ma; total number of cases mounted to 50 involving 82 ears. With SM loss of hearing when the loss was within 40db the agent pro-duced favorable results in more than 50 % of the number of cases treated. In cases of ner-ve deafness regardless of the degree of loss the agent appeared to be effective in those cases whose audiogram was hill, slantig and dip types.
