I．緒言

　悪性脳腫瘍に対する治療としての手術療法は，現在のところその予後は必ずしも良好とはいえない．そのため現在まで種々の補助療法が試みられてきているが，いまだ充分な効果が得られているとはいいがたい．

　1965年，Popovicら^1）は，ハムスターの頬嚢移植腫瘍を正常温（37℃）に保ちながら，体温を4℃に10時間保つと，腫瘍が完全に消失したと報告し，この方法をDifferential Hypothermia（D．H）と名付け，一連の発表を行なっている^2-5）．

Though many laboratory and clinical trials of tumor heating or cooling have been made for the treatment of intracranial tumors, the effects have been reported to be incomplete and unsatisfactory in most of the cases.

In 1965, Popovic et al. reported that differential hypothermia, to keep tumor normothermic under general body hypothermia, showed a more marked effect on the tumor in experimental animals.

The authors also confirmed that the transplanted cheek-pouch tumors of hamsters originally induced by adenovirus type 12 disappeared after 10-hr differential hypothermia treatment (D. H.).
