　はじめに

　急性中耳炎は臨床的に多く遭遇する疾患の1つで，それに伴う難聴は一般に伝音難聴である。しかし近年急性中耳炎に内耳障害を伴うという報告がなされるようになってきた^1〜8）。しかし，そのほとんどが感音難聴に関するもので，前庭機能所見やその経過についての詳細な検討は余りなされていない。最近，当科で急性中耳炎に内耳障害を伴った症例を20例経験したので，臨床経過をまとめ，特に前庭機能所見およびその変化について検討した。

Twenty patients (11 males and 9 females, aged 13 to 62 years) with inner ear damage due to acute otitis media were examined. All patients showed a mixed hearing loss in pure tone audiometry. Seven patients complained of vertigo, and 16 patients showed spontaneous nystagmus. Irritative nystag-mus preceding paralytic nystagmus occurred in 8 patients. Eighteen patients showed spontaneous nystagmus or caloric dysfunction, indicating that the site of inner ear damage due to acute otitis media was not only in the cochlea but in the vesti-bule.
