ICUフォローアップ外来は，ICUを退室し，生存退院した患者に特化した外来であり，PICSの診断や治療を行う場として注目されている。ICUフォローアップ外来は20年以上前からヨーロッパを中心に広まってきたが，北米でも近年徐々に普及しつつある。ICUフォローアップ外来には定まった形態はなく，患者の評価方法や治療介入は施設ごとにさまざまで，具体的には，リハビリテーションや認知機能・精神症状のサポートのほか，外来薬剤師による服薬調整などが行われている。ICUフォローアップ外来は広まりつつあるものの，患者予後に対する有用性については十分なエビデンスがなく今後の重要な研究課題である。

Recent advances in intensive care medicine have increased the number of survivors of critical illness. As a result, attention is increasingly drawn to the long-term quality of life of ICU-survivors after discharge from the hospital. ICU follow-up clinics, which provide comprehensive care for ICU-survivors originated in United Kingdom more than 20 years ago, and have been emerging predominantly in Europe and recently in the United States. Services provided in ICU follow-up clinics have not yet been standardized. Physical therapy, psychological care, and medication reconciliation are good examples of services provided in the clinics. Further research is necessary to investigate whether ICU follow-up clinics facilitate improvements in meaningful patient-centered outcomes in ICU-survivors.
