The term cervical vertigo seeks the cause of the pathology in cervical vertebrae; but, the mechanism of this condition has not been clearly established. At the Clinic of the Tokyo University Hospital, radiographic study of cervical vertebrae is adopted as a routine procedure in the examination of patients with complaints of vertigo. The authors present data in which the relation between the vertigo and the pathological changes occuring in the cervical vertebrae is shown by means of x-ray films. These changes were more frequently found in cases with complaints of vertigo than in those who were considered as normal. In cases of vertigo the changes were manifested particularly, in the vertebral body, the intervertebral disc and foramen; whereas, in the normal the changes were restricted mainly to the vertebral body. The authors conclude that the x-ray changes that may be found in the cervical vertebrae be regarded as a causative factor of the vertigo.
