　今回常染色体性劣性遺伝を示す家族性パーキンソニズムの原因遺伝子のクローニングに多くの方々との共同研究で成功にこぎつけることができたが^6），これにはいくつかの幸運に恵まれた点もあった。どのようにしてここまでこぎ着けたかは若手研究者にとっても興味のある点ではないかと思うので，道筋をたどって紹介してみたい。

We review recent progress in the genetics of Parkinson's disease (PD) . Familial parkinsonism probably comprises not more than 5% of total patients with PD ; but the molecular cloning of the disease genes is of utmost importance to obtain clues to explore molecular mechanism of selective degeneration of the nigral neurons. We recently cloned the disease gene for an autosomal recessive form of early onset familial parkinsonism. This type was first described by Yamamura et al in 1973 as autosomal recessive-early onset parkinsonism (AR-EP).
