Positron emission tomography (PET) study has been done on the metabolism of glucose in the central nervous system, which revealed the transport of glucose to and from the blood vessels and the brain parenchyma, phosphorylation of glucose, dephosphorylation of glucose-6-phosphate. These parameters were calculated by non-linear least square method. Transport from the blood vessel to the brain stands for the activity of glucose transporter 1. We found the decrease of this activity as well as the phosphorylation of glucose in the parietotemporal regions in Alzheimer's disease.
