  • Look Inside

The probable visual acuity after cataract surgerycan be estimated, presurgically, with the use oflaser interferometer (retinometer) or potentialacuity meter (PAM) which projects variousoptotypes onto the ocular fundus. We evaluated aseries of 76 eyes operated for cataract. We compar-ed the predicted visual acuity levels measured bylaser interferometer and PAM with the actualpostsurgical visual acuity measured with Landoltrings.

Although the visual acuity predicted with eitherinterferometer or PAM showed false negative orpositive reading in many cases, it showed compara-tively high correlation with the actual postsurgicalLandolt ring visual acuity.

It seems that the difference of optotype con-figulation causes false negative or positive read-ings.
