We reviewed 52 eyes with glaucoma which underwent surgery for associated cataract. As the inclusion criteria, the postoperative visual acuity had to be 0.6 or better. The visual field was tested, before and after surgery, by 30-2 program of Humphrey Visual Field Analyzer. A significant correlation was present between pattern deviation value at the four most central test points before surgery and the total deviation value for the same points after surgery. The postoperative visual acuity was correlated with none of the four pattern deviation values before surgery. All the following 3 preoperative conditions had to be fulfilled in order to achieve visual acuity of 0.6 or better after cataract surgery in glaucoma eyes. 1. Pattern deviation value of -10dB or more at the most central inferior nasal point. 2. Pattern deviation value of-15dB or more at the most central superior or inferior nasal point. 3. Mean pattern deviation value of-16dB or more at the most central inferior nasal and temporal points.
