  • Look Inside

We measured the visual evoked potentials (VEPs) using laser speckle pattern stimulator in advanced cataractous eyes. The VEP and laser in-terference visual acuity determinations were per-formed before and after surgery.

In the preoperative period, the VEPs were more independent of the degree of lens opacity than in-terference visual acuity. The VEPs therefore sup-plied more reliable data in predicting postsurgical visual function than interference visual acuity.

While the VEP and the interference visual acuity were poorly correlated with actual postoperative visual acuity.
