  • Look Inside

We treated 10 eyes with active idiopathic choroidal neovascularization by dye laser photocoagulation (575~630 nm) during the foregoing two years. The 9 cases comprised 5 females and 4 males. The ages ranged from 16 to 48 years, average 34 years. The neovascular membrane disappeared in 8 eyes after photocoagulation. The visual acuity improved by two lines or more in 4 eyes, remained unchanged in 5 and deteriorated in one. Eight eyes attained the final visual acuity of 0.8 or more. The visual acuity remained 0.3 or less in 2 eyes. Neovascular membrane persisted in 2 eyes. It was located subfoveally in 1 and juxtafoveally in 1. The findings show that dye laser photocoagulation may be effective for idiopathic choroidal neovascularization when the neovascular membrane is located at least 300 μm away from the fovea.
