  • Look Inside

We examined 24 eyes with retinal arteriolar macroaneurysm using fluorescein and indocyanine green (ICG) angiography. During the initial phase of the disease, macroaneurysm was identified in 21 eyes, 88%, by ICG and in 16 eyes, 42%, by fluorescein. Fluorescein leaked readily from the macroaneurysm. In contrast, leakage of ICG became manifest only during the late angiographic phase. There was a tendency of more pronounced extravasation of the ICG dye and more manifest pulsation in macroaneurysms which were located closer to the disc and which showed prompt dye filling. These features appeared to be of value in evaluating the activity of macroaneurysm. ICG angiography was of more value in planning laser treat-ment than fluorescein because of higher rate of detection by the former.
