Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of switching from travoprost to fixed combination of travoprost and timolol in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma(POAG). Cases and Method:This prospective study was made on 34 eyes of 34 patients with POAG in the broad sense. The series comprised 14 males and 20 females. The age ranged from 26 to 82, average 64 years. After insufficient reduction of intraocular pressure(IOP)by topical 0.004% travoprost, the treatment was switched to fixed combination of 0.004% travoprost and 0.5% timolol. Cases were followed up for 2 years regarding IOP, visual field and adverse reactions. Results:IOP averaged 16.9±3.3 mmHg before switching. It decreased significantly when measured every 3 months until 2 years after switching(p<0.0001). MD value of visual field showed no change when measured one and 2 years after switching(p=0.3361). Adverse reactions developed in 5 cases, including blurred vision, photopsia, corneal epithelial lesion, and conjunctival hyperemia. Treatment was discontinued in 10 cases(30%), due to progression of visual field defect(5 cases)and insufficient IOP reduction(1 case)among others. Conclusion:Switching from travoprost to combination of travoprost and timolol was followed by reduction of IOP, no change in visual field defect, and minor adverse reactions.
