Abstract. Purpose:To report the safety and ocular hypotensive effect of 0.004% travoprost ophthalmic solution in eyes of normal-tension glaucoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 66 eyes of 66 patients with normal-tension glaucoma. The series comprised 27 males and 39 females. The age ranged from 26 to 83 years, average 55 years. The intraocular pressure(IOP)ranged from 11 to 21 mmHg,average 16.5±2.5 mmHg. Patients were asked to instil travoprost once daily for 6 months. Results:IOP decreased significantly from the baseline value at 1,3 and 6 months after start of instillation(p<0.0001 each). IOP reduction was greater at 6 than 1 month of instillation(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the rate of IOP reduction among 1,3 and 6 months of instillation. Four cases(6%)had to discontinue instillation because of side effects. Conclusion:Instillation of travoprost for 6 months was safe and effective in eyes with normal-tension glaucoma.
