Abstract. Background:Paclitaxel, an anticancer drug, has been reported to cause cystoid macular edema(CME). Nab-paclitaxel, which was produced by combining paclitaxel with human serum albumin, has been reported to be more potent for cancer. Purpose:To report a case who manifested CME during treatment with nab-paclitaxel. Case:A 52-year-old female presented with metamorphosis and impaired vision in both eyes since 3 months before. She had received surgery for breast cancer 10 years before. Liver metastasis was detected 6 years before and was treated by chemotherapy including paclitaxel. Carcinomatous pleurisy developed 5 years before. She had been receiving systemic nab-paclitaxel since 10 months before. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.2 right and 0.9 left. Both eyes showed CME. Optical coherence tomograph(OCT)findings supported the diagnosis. Treatment with nab-paclitaxel was discontinued after visual acuity decreased to 0.9 right and 0.4 left one month later. Visual acuity remained the same one month later with improved CME by OCT. CME disappeared another 4 months later. Visual acuity remained the same. Conclusion:Systemic treatment with nab-paclitaxel may have induced CME.
