Abstract. Purpose:To report the effect of long-term instillation of levobunolol for primary open-angle glaucoma on intraocular pressure(IOP)and visual field. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 25 eyes of 25 patients who were prescribed with 0.5% levobunolol during a 20-month period. The series comprised 10 males and 15 females. IOP ranged from 12 to 24mmHg, average 16.2±3.0mmHg. One eye was diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma and 24 eyes with normal-tension glaucoma. IOP and visual field by Humphrey perimeter were measured 3, 6 and 12 months after start of treatment. Results:IOP averaged 14.3±2.0mmHg after 12 months of treatment. IOP was significantly lower at 3, 6, and 12 months of instillation(p<0.0001). There was no difference in visual field before and after 12 months of instillation regarding mean deviation(MD)or pattern standard deviation(PSD). Levobunolol instillation was continued according to protocole in 96% of cases at 6 months and in 88% at 12 months. Conclusion:Instillation of levobunolol for 12 months resulted in significant IOP decrease, no change in visual field, and in 88% of patients' compliance.
