Abstract. Purpose:To report the safety and hypotensive effect of bimatoprost ophthalmic solution for normal-tension glaucoma. Cases and Method:This study was made on 54 eyes of 54 ceses who received 0.03% bimatoprost for normal-tension glaucoma. Intraocular pressure(IOP)was measured before,1,3 and 6 months after start of treatment. Results:IOP averaged 16.7±2.2 mmHg before treatment. It averaged 12.9±2.3 mmHg after 1 month,12.6±2.2 mmHg after 3 months, and 12.8±2.0 mmHg after 6 months. All the values were significantly lower than the baseline(p<0.0001). The amount and rate of decrease were the same among 1,3 and 6 months of treatment. Instillation was discontinued in 9 eyes(16.7%)due to complications comprising 5 eyes of hyperemia,3 eyes of pigmentation of lower eyelid, and one eye each of foreign body sensation, deepening of upper eyelid sulcus, ocular pain, and hypertrichosis of eyelashes. Conclusion:Bimatoprost ophthalmic solution lowered IOP in eyes with normal-tension glaucoma for 6 months. Care is needed about complications.
