Abstract. Purpose:To compare acrylic and silicone intraocular lenses(IOLs)regarding state of fixation and other features. Cases and Methods:Cataract surgery was performed on both eyes of 98 persons. One eye was implanted with acrylic IOL(AR40e)and the fellow eye with silicone IOL(Clarifrex). The implanted IOLs were evaluated for decentration, tilt, area of anterior capsule opening, and depth of anterior chamber after 3 days,1,3 and 6 months of surgery. Results:There were no time-related changes nor differences between acryl and silicone IOLs regarding decentration, tilt,or depth of anterior chamber. Silicone IOLs showed smaller anterior capsule opening and greater contraction of anterior capsule than acrylic ones. Conclusion:Implanted acrylic and silicone IOLs were similar regarding decentration, tilt,or depth of anterior chamber. Silicone IOLs showed greater contraction of anterior capsule.
