Abstract. Purpose:To report the role of low-molecule silicone in experimental deposit of calcium on hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lens(IOL). Methods:This experiment was made on 6 pieces of Hydroview® H60M as hydrophilic acrylic IOL and 6 pieces of UV-60SB as PMMA IOL. Silicone-coated IOL was produced by immersing and heating the IOLs in fluid containing silicone. Supersaturation method was used to produce calcium deposit on IOLs. X-ray photoelectric spectroscopy was used to verify the calcium deposit. Results:Calcium was deposited on both types of IOL coated with silicone. Calcium deposit was absent on both types of IOL not coated by silicone. Conclusion:Presence of silicone on the surface of IOL facilitates calcium deposit.
