In this review we explained curative conditions of endoscopic resection for colorectal tumors including recent progress, problems and perspectives according to"Guideline for colorectal cancer treatment, 1st Edition, 2005"of the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum. Of these conditions, the standardization of the way to estimate the pathological submucosal invasive distance is a very important issue that should be achieved as soon as possible. Endoscopists as well as pathologists have to understand how to estimate the pathological submucosal invasive distance correctly.
