I．緒言
薬包の一種であるPTP（Press through Package）を誤まってのみこんでしまうケースは多数報告されており，PTPは食道異物として珍しいものではなくなってきている。しかし分別のある大人が薬を内服するさいにその包装をのみこんでしまうという常識的には考えられない事故は，これまで知られてきた異物症とはいささか範疇を異にするものと考えられるが，PTP誤嚥の本態に関する考察はほとんど行われていない。
著者はこの問題を検討する目的で，当教室で経験したPTP異物症18例を分析するとともに診断，治療，予防について考察を加えた。
Eighteen cases of mistaken ingestion of PTP (press through package or blister package) of drugs were treated in past 9 years, and the results were summarized as follows.
1) The patient's age were from 39 to 82 (average 63. 9) years. In 2 cases the package pieces were lodged in the hypopharynx and in 16 cases in the esophagus.
2) In recent years PTP pieces accounted for about 10 percent of all foreign bodies in the esophagus in Japan.
3) Fluoroscopic examinations with Gastrografin were very useful to detect PTP in the esophagus.
4) It is concluded that the modification of the packages or the change of the present dispensing system could prevent ingestion of PTP pieces.
