I．はじめに

　咽後膿瘍は，抗生物質の出現によって稀な疾患となった。最近，われわれは53歳の男性で，急性咽喉頭炎，喉頭蓋浮腫にひき続いて起こった咽後膿瘍を経験した。局麻下経口法により切開排膿を行った約9週間後，下咽頭食道透視にて，胸部食道に明らかな狭窄像が認められた，この狭窄像は，約8週間後，自然に消失した。興味ある症例と思われたので，ここに臨床経過を報告する。

　A case of retropharyngeal abscess in a 53-year-old man was reported. It was felt that this disease had to be taken into consideration even now if inflammatory changes were severe in the pharynx and larynx. In the absence of respiratory obstruction, drainage of a localized retropharyngeal abscess could be accomplished safely under local anesthesia. Nine weeks after surgical treatment, the patient complained of dysphagia for solid foods. Benign strictures of the midesophagus were proved by barium studies, esophagoscopy and biopsy. The cause of these strictures was unknown, but it was improved in eight weeks without treatment.
