　上顎洞内に結塊をみた場合に考えられるものは，膿塊，真菌症，乾酪性病変，遊離骨片，異物，結石などであろう。このうち異物と結石は稀なものであるとされる。この症例は始め上顎洞内の結石であろうと検索を進めている間に，遊離骨片が結石様変化を示したものと判明したものの報告である。

　Concrements resembling rhinoliths were found in both maxillary sinuses of an eighteen-year-old-male who suffered chronic sinusitis. These bodies were smooth, round masses and as large as the tip of an ordinary match. Microscopic examination revealed the masses to be composed of a bony core covered with layers of salt. The author believes that the origin of this formation might be due osteitic changes that might have occurred during the course of chronic sinusitis.
