所謂突発性難聽（Sudden Deafness）に就いて

　Ⅰ．緒言

　難聴を訴える患者の中で，それが急激に始まつたと告げるものは決して稀ではない。然し乍らそれらの多くは原因と思われる外来の，或は内在の何等かの要因と或る因果関係を持つている場合，即ち爆発，音響外傷，頭部外傷，ケイソン氏病，熱性疾患，中耳炎（内耳炎），脳膜炎，藥物中毒等々であつて，たとえ直接の因果関係が認められないにしても，精神的なシヨツクによるヒステリー性聾であつたり，梅毒等の慢性疾患であったり，或いは又耳管狭窄症である場合さえある。

　著者がここでとりあげた所謂突発性難聴と一般に呼ばれている一群の聴覚障碍は，普通「急激に発来せる原因不明の神経難聴」という意に於て用いられているものであつて，或る聴覚障碍が本疾患に該当するためには，少くとも次の三項の条件を満足させるものでなければならない。即ち，

　1）その発症が突発的であること。

　2）原因（先述の意味に於て）不明であること。

　3）難聴の由来が感音器性のものであること。

　TSUIKI gives a summary of observations made on 19 cases of deafness which is considered as perceptive deafness without a known cause that affects a person with a sadden onset and which is also known as the so-called sudden deafness.

　The disease appear to strike a person who is otherwise considered to be enjoying a good health; in the robust period of early middle age.

　The deafness is manifested unilaterally with prodromal symptons of vestibular, labyrinthine disturbances, marked in degree with presence of recruitment. The author states that clinically, symptom manifestation of this disease is protean in character.
