　脱髄疾患は神経線維の髄鞘を特異的に破壊する疾患であり，その背景に髄鞘構成成分に対するアレルギー機序が作用していると見做されている。とは言うものの，その機構の詳細な点に関してはなお不明の点が多く残されている。

　このシンポジウムの主題である神経組織培養という手技を用いた脱髄疾患の研究は，この種疾患やその動物モデル（EAE・EAN）で問題にされている抗体や抗血清，免疫関与細胞などをin vitroの神経組織に投与し，in vitroでの脱髄現象を調べることが中心になっている。今後さらに種々の応用が期待できるものではあるが，ここでは，従来行なわれてきたこれらのものについて述べる。

Abstract

Tissue culture techniques have been well adapted to the study of demyelinating diseases. This was carried out by supplying either antisera or sensi-tized lymphocytes to the myelinated cultures to visualize the allergic processes under the micro-scope. EAE antisera may produce activation of macrophages present in cultures, consequently causing splitting and vesicular dissolution of myelin lamellae. Active agent in the antisera seemed to be a complement (C3) dependent IgG antibody. Corresponding antigen was found to be glycolipid, such as galactocerebroside, ganglioside and sul-fatide.
