神経組織培養法の実験病理学的研究への応用と成果

Application of nerve culture technics to the neuropathological studies

　神経組織の培養は他の組織のそれに比し長い歴史を持っている。今世紀の初めHarrison^23）（1907）が蛙の脊髄をリンパ液内で培養し，軸索の発育を観察して以来のことである。この研究以後，神経組織の培養は一部の人によって研究されていたものの，とくに注目すべき業績は見られないままに経過した。一方，一般の組織培養はウィルス学，腫瘍学の進歩とともに次第にその応用範囲が広がり，と同時にその技術も進み活発な研究がすすめられて来た。このような状態のもとで神経組織の培養も一般培養の進歩に伴い次第に活発となって来た。とくにStrangeway研究所では独特の器管培養の技術が確立され，この方法が神経組織特有の細胞構成とあいまって，以後の神経組織培養の発達に貢献したわけである。

Nervous tissue maintained in vitro have been widely employed for the studies of neurobiological and neuropathological events. Results obtained with this technics have been reviewed. It includes description of culture technics, and findings of developing tissue with myelination. Regarding the neuropathological studies using cultures, results from avitaminosis, radiation, neurotoxic effects were described. These were followed by studies of virus replication in nerve cultures and demyelination with EAE and EAN sera and node cells.
