はじめに

　筋疾患研究の最近の進歩は素晴しい。この10年間における進歩を述べるのが本特集の主旨であるが，本文では筋疾患のうち，いわゆるpure muscular dystrophyを中心的に取り上げて述べ，あわせて，これとの関連において，その他の筋疾患についても簡単に触れたい（総括的な文献^1〜8））。後者のおのおのに関しては，本特集^9）で別に専門研究者によって述べられている。

Progress during these 10 years in the studies of muscular diseases has been reviewed with special reference to pure muscular dystrophy.

A comment is first required to the classification of progressive muscular dystrophy (PMD), since sophistication of the latter may be regarded to represent the levels of understanding of the disease at that time.
