要約　目的：添付文書上で添加物が同様であるラタノプロスト0.005％とラタノプロスト・チモロール配合剤による角膜上皮障害を比較して，チモロールによる影響を調査した。

対象と方法：対象は，ラタノプロスト（以下，単剤）およびラタノプロスト・チモロール配合剤（以下，配合剤）を単独に点眼している緑内障患者380名（74.0±10.7歳，男性159名，女性221名）および90名（70.6±13.1歳，男性38名，女性52名）である。1年間にわたり，2か月ごとに角膜上皮障害を観察した。両眼に点眼している場合は，右眼を対象とした。

結果：1年間の調査を，単剤で342名（90.0％），配合剤で84名（93.3％）の患者が完了した。点状表層角膜症が単剤で127名（37.1％），配合剤で34名（40.5％）で，少なくとも1回以上がみられた（p＝0.6）。そのうち，単剤で113名（33.5％），配合剤で30名（35.7％）が軽症であった。単剤では，70歳未満で27名（24.1％），70〜79歳で42名（35.6％），80歳以上で58名（51.8％）に角膜上皮障害がみられたのに対して，配合剤では，8名（26.7％），12名（42.9％），14名（53.9％）であった。両患者群において，頻度は年齢と有意に相関していたが（p＜0.0001），いずれの年齢層でも，配合剤群と単剤群との間に有意差はなかった（p＝0.5〜0.9）。

結語：単剤および配合剤ともに，発症率と年齢の間に有意な相関があった。配合剤の発症率は単剤と差異がなかった。

Abstract　Purpose：To report the incidence of corneal epithelial disorder of ophthalmic solution latanoprost and fixed combination of latanoprost and timolol, in order to evaluate the role of timolol on the corneal damage.

Cases and Method：This study was made on 470 eyes of 470 glaucoma patients. 0.005％ latanoprost was used in 342 patients. Fixed combination of 0.005％ latanoprost and 0.5 timolol was used in 84 patients. Patients were examined every 2 months for one year.

Results：Superficial punctate epitheliopathy was observed once or more in 127 patients（37.1％）receiving latanoprost alone and in 34 patients（40.5％）receiving fixed combination. The difference was not significant（p＝0.6）. The incidence was significantly correlated with age in both groups（p＜0.0001）. There was no difference in the incidence of corneal lesion between the 2 groups in age groups less than 70 years, 70 to 79 years, or 80 years or over.

Conclusion：Incidence of superficial punctate epitheliopathy was positively correlated with age during one year of treatment with latanoprost or latanoprost-timolol ophthalmic solution. No significant difference was present between cases treated by latanoprost alone or fixed combination of latanoprost-timolol.
