緒　言

　緑内障において視野と視神経乳頭変化は相互に密接な関連をもち，かつこの両者が緑内障病期またはfunctional statusを示す最も信頼すべき指標と考えられている^1）。

　視野と視神経のいずれが先行変化するかに関してDrance^2）は緑内障初期において視野欠損を伴わないcuppingの拡大，すなわちneuroretinalrimの消耗が起きることから視神経が視野に先行することを示唆し，Readら^3）も同様の見解を示している。

We conducted a quantitated evaluation ofoptic disc and visual field in 65 eyes of chronic simple glaucoma and 88 healthy eyes in order to ascertain the correlations between the disc and the visual field. We employed various parameters for the measurement of the disc, such as cup/disc ratio along the horizontal meridian (CDH), pallor/disc ratio along the horizontal (PDH) and vertical (PDV) meridians, cup/disc area ratio (CDA), pallor/disc area ratio (PDA) and the disc stage classification using 'quantitative disc pattern' (QDP) (Shiose 1974). Stereoscopic pairs of fundus pictures were used for the evalu-ation of disc conditions.
