I．緒言

　本年4月の学会で，私は近視の宿題報告を担当したが，そのさい時間の関係もあり，佐藤邇氏の近視論について討論を十分しなかつた。ところがその後の学会誌に扱われた論評など見ると，会員の多くはまだ十分この近視論の弱点について理解していないと思われるので，昭和29年の本会のシンポジウムで指摘したことに幾分補足して，再度この演題についてお話ししたい。

The author pointed out again that the experi-ments of Dr. Chikashi Sato does not support the thesis that acquired myopia should be caused by the increase of the refractive power of lens by near work. The principal points are as fo-llows:

1. Dr. Sato compared the refractive power of cornea of near workers with that of medium dis-tance workers or distance workers and decided that there was no significant difference between them, but the author found that a significant difference exists even between medium distance workers and near workers according to the si-gnificance level of the modern medical sta-tistics.
