Late Infection of Filtering Conjunctival Scars

I．緒言

　Elliotの管錐術，虹彩はめこみ術と近年広く行なわれるようになつたScheieの手術などの瀘過手術は，各種の緑内障に対して適用が広く効果も著明なので，古くより一般に使用されている術式である。この術式の一つの欠点とも言うべき晩発感染（late infection）については多くの人から問題にされており，わが国においても河本^1）2）以来多くの報告があるが，いずれも少数例である。

　著者らは最近10年間に，14例14眼の晩発感染の例を経験した。これらについて検討するとともに，特に，β線照射を行なつた症例についても興味ある結果を得たので報告する次第である。

During the last 10 years clinical activity of the author, 21 instances of late infection of filtering bleb have been encountered in 14 eyes in 14 cases. The condition after trephining operation was most prone to incur late infection, though other forms of operation was not entirely free from it. The incidence of infection was significantly greater when the filtering bleb was formed in the lower limbal area.

When β-ray irradiation was applied to the filtering bleb as postoperative treatment, the incidence of late infection was particularly high at 18.7%.
