I．緒言

　網膜色素変性の成因，従つてその本態については，未だ不明の域を脱し得ない。然し，近時，本症に関する優れた研究業績が多くの人々によつて報告されつつある。

　当教室においても，既に昭和25年以来，社会的，地理的あるいは遺伝的関係から本症発生の頻度が特に高いと思われる岩手県の全域にわたつて綿密な調査を行い，本症の早期発見に努め，あらゆる角度からの諸検査を重ねつつ，その治療法の確立に努力し続け，機会あるごとにその成果を発表して来た。

After having made a series of statistical observations on 308 patients with primary pigmentary degeneration of the retina, we have come to the following conclusions :

1. The rate of occurrence is greater in the mountainous district, though, generally spea-king, there is not a clear regional difference.

2. The coefficient of correlation between age and vision is +0.1797, which is hardly significant.

3. The rate of grade on the centripetal co-ntraction of the visual field is most when under 20 degrees. It is 32.1% and holds appro-ximately for eyes of 308 patients.

4. The rate of appearance of the ring scot-oma is 9.0%.
