Ⅰ．まえがき

　糖尿病性網膜症（以後網膜症と略す）の発症予防及び進行阻止には，血糖値のコントロールが大切であることは，従来著者等^1）2）3）の主張して来たところであるが，良好なコントロールが保たれているにも拘らず，網膜症の発症，進行する症例（以後進行例と略す）があることも事実である。

　著者の1人福田は，第68回日眼総会（昭和39年4月於東京）に於ける谷道之氏の発表^4）に追加して，これ等コントロール良好にして網膜症の進行する症例では，治療開始前に於ける負荷試験の2時間値が200mg／dl以上を示すものが多いことを指摘した。

Repeated examinations of eye-grounds were conducted for over two years on 125 diabetic cases with known glucose tolerance test value prior to treatment. The results of the above examination were statistically analysed for the purpose of finding the relation between the results of glucose tolerance test and the occurrence and/or progress of diabetic retino-pathy.

It is to be emphasized that in our study the therapeutic control of diabetes was en-tirely guided by the value of fasting blood sugar, which was determined on respectivepatients, who used to visit our hospital at the intervals of from one to four weeks in most cases.
