I．緒言

　およそ，50年前からosmotic agentsによる血液滲透圧の変動が，脳脊髄液圧や眼圧に影響を及ぼすことから，脳浮腫や緑内障に対する治療として，高張液の静注が行なわれて来た^1）。その中で，尿素の点滴静注と，脳脊髄液圧の下降剤であるMannitolの滲透圧に基づく利尿作用が，緑内障の治療に有効であるとして，最近米国で脚光を浴びている^1）。ところが最近，Virno等^2）（1961〜1963）は，Glycerolの内服がosmotic age—ntsとして，脳浮腫消退及び緑内障の眼圧下降に有用であることを発表した。私共もGlycerolを種々なる緑内障眼に使用し，著明な眼圧下降をみたので，臨床例は僅かであるが報告すると共に，先般，すでに発表^1）したMannitolの点滴静注による緑内障治験例の追加をする次第である。

The hypotensive effect of both 50% Gly-cerol administered orally and 15% Mannitol infused intravenously was studied in normal and glaucomatous eyes.

A. 50% Glycerol solution was prepared by adding 0.9% saline and orange essence. The dosage was 1.2 to 1.5gm/kg. The change of the ocular tension after administration of Glycerol was studied in 6 normal eyes, 9 eyes with simple glaucoma, 4 eyes with acute congestive glaucoma, two eyes with chronic congestive glaucoma and two eyes with seco-ndary glaucoma.
