　くも膜顆粒は髄液を静脈へ排出する重要な構造とされているが，その機能に関わる形態学的特徴については一致した見解はない。本研究ではくも膜顆粒の微細構造と機能を解明するため，実験的にくも膜下腔圧を上昇させたサルのくも膜顆粒を光顕，走査型および透過型電顕で観察，検討した。3種類のくも膜顆粒が区別された。1）紡錘形に膨隆した内皮のみで覆われる顆粒，2）扁平な内皮のみで覆われる顆粒，3）膨隆，扁平の両者の内皮で覆われる顆粒。3）の顆粒は分葉形で，そのくびれの部分のみが局所的に扁平な内皮で覆われ，他の部分は膨隆した内皮で覆われていた。くも膜顆粒における髄液排出機序である閉鎖系，内皮細胞間隙の開大による開放系，細胞質空胞の拡大，開放による開放系の各形態的根拠が同一標本で観察され，3種類の髄液排出機序が同時に機能していることを示し，これらをくも膜顆粒複合体と呼ぶことを提唱した。

It is generally accepted that the arachnoid granulations play an essential role in the drainage of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) into venous system, but there is continuing in controversy as to the morphological features of their functions. The present study was undertaken to investigate the structure and function of monkey arachnoid granulations under the increased pressure of sub-arachnoid space by light, scanning (SEM) and trans-misson (TEM) electron microscopy. Granulations were classified into three types by surface endo-thelial morphology.
