Imaging methods for amyloid PET

アルツハイマー病はアミロイドβ（Aβ）プラークの脳内蓄積を特徴とする脳疾患である。2023年9月2日にアミロイドβ抗体薬（レカネマブ）がアルツハイマー病疾患修飾薬として薬事承認され，2023年12月20日に保険適用となり，実臨床でも使用されることとなった。この治療薬は，アミロイドPETまたは脳脊髄液検査により，脳内のAβの沈着を確認したうえで投与する必要があり，アミロイドPETが認知症診療の中で使用されることになる。このようなことから，2023年12月19日にアミロイドPETが保険適用となった。

Lecanemab was covered by insurance for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and is also used in clinical practice. Lecanemab must be administered after confirming amyloid-β peptide deposition in the brain, and amyloid PET will be used in dementia treatment. Although standard protocols using each amyloid imaging agent have been issued by the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine, image quality varies depending on the imaging protocol. Therefore, it is important to develop an examination protocol for each amyloid imaging agent that follows the guidelines and is easy for each institution to operate, and to adhere to the examination protocols that have been developed. This article outlines the imaging methods for amyloid PET.
