Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of a basic training course for Red Cross Nursing Students. An effective training course should teach students the Fundamental Principals of the Red Cross Movement such as humanity, impartiality, neutrality.

The study was designed to measure three changes prior to and after the course:(1)change in selfesteem, (2)change in quality of voluntary services,(3)* sources of motivation" for * helping behavior". The study was conducted using a questionnaire sheet given to a sample of 44 new students.

The major result of this study illustrated that those students who showed an increase in selfesteem also tended to recognize voluntary services as natural behavior. As well, these students were able to identify where voluntary services are needed.

Out of these result sgrew the base of thi spaper, i.e .how to effectivel yteach students to participate in the Red Cross Movement.
