  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Under carbon dioxide (CO2) pneumoperitoneum, the hemodynamics of hepatic and portal vein blood flow were observed using laparoscopic ultrasonography in order to examine the hepatic circulation in resected or cir-rhotic liver, so called damaged liver. In the comparison between the pig hepatectomy and non-hepatectomy group, elevated intraabdominal pressure (IAP) with CO2 insufflation caused significant increases in CO2 concen-tration and echogenicity of the hepatic vein in the hepatectomy group. Laparoscopic hepatectomy under CO2 pneumoperitoneum may lead to embolism caused by CO2 bubbling through the hepatic vein.
