  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Recently developed Harmonic Scalpel (ultrasonically activated scalpel) is a device which can cut and coagulate tissue by converting electric energy to mechanical vibration with a frequency of 55,500 Hz. This device has the merit of not yielding smoke and not heating tissue above 80℃. Harmonic Scalpel handpiece is rigid and thick. The active blade is straight in shape at the present time ; however, if improved, Harmonic Scalpel will be essential for lung resection under thoracoscopic guidance in the near future.
