　ハーモニック・スカルペルは，腹腔鏡下の切開，切断，止血などの手術操作に安全に応用され，婦人科腹腔鏡下手術において有用性が高い．ハーモニック・スカルペルが適用されるおもな疾患と術式は，子宮筋腫に対する子宮全摘，筋腫核出，卵巣嚢腫に対する付属器切除，嚢腫核出，子宮外妊娠に対する卵管切除，卵管線状切開など多岐にわたる．子宮全摘術においては，子宮円靱帯，卵管，卵巣固有靱帯，仙骨子宮靱帯の切断，膀胱子宮窩，ダグラス窩腹膜切開に用いる．出血も少量で止血はボール型で対応できる．ハーモニック・スカルペルは，より安全かつ容易に侵襲の少ない婦人科腹腔鏡下手術を可能にすると考える．

In recent years, seventy to 80% of all operations are performed under laparoscopy and application of Harmonic Scalpel has become an effective and important tool in minimally invasive surgery. Harmonic Scalpel is especially useful in such techniques as dividing and separating tissue precisely and accurately with very little amount of bleeding under laparoscopy. It also enables the surgeon to cut and coagulate simultane-ously without producing any smoke which may disturb laparoscopic view.
