An appropriate response to radiation accidents is possible with basic knowledge of radiation, repeated practical and accurate training, and the development of countermeasures. There is no need to be afraid. The ability to respond to global disasters is essential in the event of a complex disaster or an influx of a large number of victims. In response to disasters, the entire hospital must respond. An intensive care physician overseeing an essential department in a disaster response can be a leader along with an emergency physician. The problem requires collaboration among multiple institutions. Intensive care physicians should be actively involved in DMAT and emergency radiation medical teams.
