 Epidemiological findings of OPLL which were collected mainly by the investigation committee on OPLL of the Japanese ministry of public healh and welfare were reviewed.

 1. By the nationwide survey in 1975, annual number of OPLL patients who visited all Japanese hospitals was estimated as 4,200 and prevalence of OPLL was presumed as 3.75 per 100,000 population. The half of these patients was symptomatic. By the nationwide survey in 1984, annual numbei of OPLL patient was estimated as 9,897. This number was 2.4 times of that in 1975 survey. Prevalence of symptomatic OPLL was estimated as 6.33 per 100,000 population.
