Abstract

Jouvet and his co-workers have been successful in establishing the electrophysiological and biochemical hypothesis of sleep. Serotonine, noradrenaline and acetylcholine are well-known chemicals to regulate the sleep-wakefulness cycle of mammals.

In recent years, however, several investigators independently and innocently suggested that certain neuropeptides are involved to some extent in the regulation of sleep mechanism.
