Barnett III型の男子汎発性強皮症の1例を報告した．血中の好酸球，eosinophilic cationic protein（ECP）の増加，真皮内へのEG2陽性好酸球の浸潤，major basic protein（MBP）の沈着を，急速に進行する皮膚の硬化とともに認めた．Eosinophilia-myalgia症候群および好酸球性筋膜炎とは鑑別上問題となった．好酸球が病勢を反映し，皮膚の硬化に関与する可能性が考えられた．
